Reading, climbing, and a sleepover...

"Isla, do not use your stuffed animal as a weapon."
-James

Ashlyn is learning to read better on her own and has found some books and graphic novels that she enjoys.  Sadie likes reading time too.

There was a birthday party at a climbing place that Ashlyn and James were invited to.  They both did really well on the wall and other obstacles.  They had so much fun that they stayed until after their normal bed times and had to be practically dragged out.  This might be a place to go back to.

The kids wanted to have a sleepover in the movie room.  We weren't sure how well it would work, but surprisingly they all went to sleep relatively quickly.  There were no fights and no repeated reminders to be quiet and get to sleep.

Bouncing and flying…

"Flying dreams mean that you're doing the right thing with your life."
-Douglas Coupland

The blog is going to be a little light on pictures and stories for the next several weeks.  Things are changing at work and it’s keeping me incredibly busy, and it takes two to effectively entertain three children and take pictures at the same time.  Mommy found some time to take the kids to Pump It Up since the weather outside was so cold.  The place was pretty impressive and the kids had a lot of fun jumping all over the various play areas.

I don’t really know what to say here.  Ashlyn took a large piece of cardboard we were using to paint on and turned it into wings.  Luckily for us she was only trying to jump from the trampoline.  Also, it broke before she could make the leap.  I can’t help but be proud of the overall design though.  It’s not her fault she didn’t have access to better glue.

Baking and birthdays…

"If baking is any labor at all, it's a labor of love. A love that gets passed from generation to generation."
-Regina Brett

Grandma invited the kids over to bake, and bake they did.  They made pigs in a blanket, cinnamon rolls, and bread.  This is the kind of activity we can get behind.  Not only does it entertain the kids, it’s educational and we get cinnamon rolls.

We made a trip to Fort Worth on Saturday to celebrate Sydney’s 4th birthday.  The kids were happy that Sydney chose Chuck E. Cheese for the celebration spot.  They had a great time playing with Sydney and Ben.

Animals and New Years…

"There's no limit to how much you'll know, depending how far beyond zebra you go."
-Dr. Seuss

Christmas may be in the past, but there was still over a week left in the holiday break.  And what would a break be without a visit to some animals?  We made the long trek out to Fossil Rim to get up close and personal with some goats, rams, zebras, and others.  James got a little too close to a few animals and got bit twice, but not badly.  Ashlyn fell in love with the goats, and Isla liked the deer.

The kids also made a trip to a science center where they had fun playing with all the interactive exhibits.   We have no idea if they actually learned anything, but there are worse ways to spend an afternoon.

The kids still aren’t old enough to stay up until midnight but like last year we stayed up a little later to watch the fireworks in Rio de Janeiro and make some toasts with sparkling grape juice.  Happy New Year kiddos.
