Happy Mother’s Day!

"The real religion of the world comes from women much more than from men - from mothers most of all, who carry the key of our souls in their hearts."
-Oliver Wendell Holmes

This weekend two exciting things happened.  First, we gardened.  This wasn’t so much exciting as necessary as we’ve had a blank spawn in our front lawn since we moved in to the house.  Well, we planted flowers there last year and managed to keep them alive for at least 2 weeks before they died.  This time we went with simpler, hardier plants, and Ashlyn was eager to help.

And then the day arrived where we stop to celebrate what the noble creatures called mothers do for us the remaining 364 days of the year.  We were fortunate enough to celebrate with several mothers this weekend, starting with a breakfast filled with Crepe’s, Quiche, and bubbly beverages for those without babies growing in them.

The afternoon was spent with the Wolfe clan.  More mothers, more food, and more play left Ashlyn sticky and exhausted.

With all the hustle and bustle of the day, it’s easy to forget the real reason why we celebrate it.  This afternoon I was given a reminder when we were talking about the baby boy who has yet to be born.  When I questioned why any woman would willingly go through the pain and stress of having a child, especially after having one already, she matter of factly said that it’s just what you have to do if you want a child.  Just like that, summing up 40 weeks of.. well.. pregnancy, in a simple statement.  And that’s why she’s my hero.

To all the mothers, thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you, a million times over, thank you.
