Father’s Day…

“Any fool can be a Father, but it takes a real man to be a Daddy.”
- Philip Whitmore Sr.

With the binkies gone, we felt it was finally time to get new bedding for Ashlyn and we let her choose it as a reward for being a big girl.  Her choice was Tinkerbell, and suffice to say she was quite excited when we put them on.

The tomato plant already started producing fruit, so Mom showed Ashlyn how to pick the ripe ones.  The picked tomatoes never even made it inside the house.

Father’s day was broken up over both days this weekend, starting with swimming at Nina and Papa’s.  Ashlyn was able to show off some her new swimming skills, James dove headfirst into the water off the top step, and a new Army Ranger was born.

Sunday was Father’s Day #2, starting with breakfast and the planting of catnip and herbs that are supposed to keep the summer mosquitos away.  We don’t know if it will keep them away entirely, but any help is better than nothing.

We finished the day with the Wolfe family, a German feast, and polka music.  Ashlyn spent most of the time outside with Heidi, and James played the crowd.  The top right picture is him balancing on his own.  He’s still not standing yet, but his balance is improving.

When we got back from gymnastics on Saturday, Ashlyn started heading towards the door but stopped, turned around, and said “Come on Daddy!”  I’ve had many titles in my life.  Son, brother, cousin, Aggie, report, boss, friend, husband.  None gives me as much joy or pride as “Daddy”.  Thanks kids for letting me be one, and to the rest of the father’s out there, Happy Father’s Day!
