"The youth of America is their oldest tradition. It has been going on now for three hundred years."
– Oscar Wilde
Thanks to the 4th of July falling on Thursday this year, we had a four day weekend to spend with family and celebrate our country’s independence. The festivities started with the annual Silverwood parade, which is famous amongst the 10 people that show up every year for it. There must have been a rumor of more people showing up, we had a fire truck and an ambulance lead the parade with sirens blaring. Ashlyn thought the fire truck was too loud, but the kids had a fun time with it.
Later in the afternoon we headed over to the Bedford Boy’s Ranch to see if the kids would be entertained by the activities out there. Sure enough, it didn’t disappoint. James was a little too young to really get what was going on but he still had fun looking at everything. Ashlyn had a real good time, she got to participate in some of kid’s events, got to play in the park, pose for a picture as a Chick-Fil-A spokeswoman, and got to see her first magic show. She was quite impressed with the magician (see bottom right picture) who was much better than Dad with my “coin behind the ear” trick.
Friday rolled around and we spent the day playing outside with the new Slip n’ Slide. Well, Ashlyn played with the Slip n’ Slide, James entertained himself by throwing Cheerios all over the porch, pulling dirt out of the planters, and throwing sand around the sandbox.
These next pictures have nothing to do with anything really, they were randomly taken through the week and we liked them.
Saturday was spent at the pool with Nina, Papa, Aunt Lisa, Uncle Jeff, Aunt Kristen, and Uncle John. Little Ben and Lilly were also in attendance of course. Ashlyn spent most of the day jumping into the water and getting pudding all over her face. James floated around the pool. We’ve decided that next year will be they year that Ashlyn learns to swim so I suspect there will be lots of pool time next summer.
On Sunday Grandma and Grandpa Wolfe came over for dinner. Ashlyn was in rare form and tired everyone out with her dancing and play. After Grandma measured Ashlyn for a dress, James the Mimic decided that he needed to measure himself and spent the rest of the evening with the measuring tape tangled around his head.
