Flounder and theme parks…

"I'm having a great time. It's like I'm on some ridiculous big roller coaster not knowing what's happening next, but just having a great time on the ride."
-Samantha Mumba

I can’t believe Isla is almost one, in fact it’s only two days away.  You start getting glimpses of the personality to be around this time and if early indications hold true we are going to have a mischievous and stubborn child on our hands.  She’s into anything and everything.  And unlike the other two who would typically stay away from something once you told them not to go near it, Isla will happily wait for you to walk away and then make a bee-line back to whatever she was getting into in the first place.  It’s one thing to just go right back right in front of us, as if she didn’t care what we thought.  That I can deal with.  It’s the patient waiting that makes me nervous and makes me think she is going to be a handful.  Luckily she has two great older siblings that help keep an eye on her.

We had some family visiting from Freeport this weekend and we gathered at our house on  Saturday for dinner and fun.  Elaine brought some amazing flounder fresh caught this past week and we grilled it to perfection.  It’s been a long time since I’ve fish that good.  While the adults were enjoying the meal the kids were enjoying each other.

They say the hottest part of the summer is over but it didn’t feel like it this weekend.  Since the kids decided to inflate the previous blow-up pool with water instead of air (I have no idea how they did that) we had to take it to the swimming pool farm where it can play with other swimming pools.  We then bought a much less complicated pool that can really only be filled with air.  The kids like this one even better because it’s deeper and they can swim in.  Isla digs it because she can float around.

With Isla’s birthday approaching the older kids decided to make some surprises for her.  I don’t think birthday surprises were ever created, unless the “surprise” was a huge mess in the book room that they conveniently forgot to clean up.

The Freeport crew wanted to take their older girl Aubrey to Six Flags and Ashlyn was more than willing to show her the ropes.  Ashlyn enjoyed all the rides, with the exception of the Shockwave, and was happy to pause for glamour shots around the park.  You know you love yours kids when you’re willing to deal with the heat, lines, and crowds of six flags in the middle of summer.  I know Mom does anyway, I stayed home in the air conditioning with James and Isla.

Only two more days to go.  Isla is playing it cool.
