Gymnastics and camping…

"I've been waiting my whole life to go camping."
-Isla

This week was dominated by two events.  The first was Isla’s gymnastics meet.  She improved on her last meet, finishing up second on her team and 7th overall.  She enjoyed the meet and other than a fall on bars she had an overall clean performance.  She’s already asking when the next meet is.

The second big event was an overnight camping trip to Lake Ray Roberts.  To reach the campsite you had to walk a little over a 1/3rd of a mile from the car, so the dads setup the camp while the kids played at the beach.  After everyone made it to the campsite we started a fire and cooked hot dogs, followed by s’mores.  Everyone had a great time and we’re already starting to talk about the next camping trip.  Maybe to a place closer to the car.

Masks, soccer, and chalk art…

"People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish… but that's only if it's done properly."
―Banksy

Grandma and Grandpa came by to drop off some new handcrafted masks.  The kids loved their new soccer and gymnastics themed masks, can’t you tell from the huge smiles?

The weather was beautiful outside and the kids went out to play while we worked on things inside the house.  At one point we found them turning old sidewalk chalk into powder using tools in the garage (including an electric screwdriver).  They wouldn’t say what they were going to do with it, and what’s the worst they could do with chalk powder?  This question was answered when we went out later.

The soccer season continues, this time in a new league that isn’t quite so competitive.  James was more aggressive with the ball and said he had more fun this game.

Soccer, gymnastics, and a day at the beach…

"The ribbons are the whole point."
-Isla

James has had his second soccer game this weekend.  His team, being new, should have been put in one of the lower divisions.  However, due to a mix up, they were put in the top division.  Basically this means every game this season will be against much more experienced teams.  That didn’t stop James from getting out on the field with a “I think we can still win” attitude, and he played his best even though they were playing a tough opponent.  He’s getting better every game.

Isla’s first meet was this weekend and she was excited about it.  With coach Ashlyn along for support, Isla performed all of her routines with confidence.  She was towards the top of her team in her first meet, which is great.  The main thing is that Isla had fun and is already looking forward to her next meet.

The kids have been working hard at school and sports so we took the afternoon off on Sunday to go to the lake.  They were limiting access due to COVID so we had a section of beach to ourselves.  The kids got to build sandcastles, swim in the water, bury their siblings, and play on the playground.  It was a fun outing, we might go back and do some camping in one of these upcoming weekends.

Random fun under quarantine…

"The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."
-Dolly Parton

With school now in full swing and everyone still under quarantine, entertainment (and picture) options have become harder to come by.  That doesn’t meant we won’t capitalize on events when they happen.  For example, when it started raining the kids ran outside and got soaked.

When night came, a pack of glow sticks became a game of drawing pictures in the air for the camera.

When inside, who knows what we’ll find the kids doing when we round a corner.  Dancing with a smoothie, coloring, painting, and everything in between.  We’re glad the kids are able to find things to do around the house, but we’re definitely looking forward to things opening up again.
