To the beach!

"They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon."
-Edward Lear

Mommy and the kids went to Freeport this week to visit with family and play at the beach.  The trip was filled with sand, waves, games, food, kites, bunnies, and more.  I’ll let the pictures do the talking as they can sum up everything much better than words can.

Soccer camp, summer fun, and a birthday lunch…

"All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

This week James had soccer camp at LD Bell high school.  He played soccer with his friends every day but wouldn’t tell us how it was going for him.  When it was time to end the week, he was awarded the Camper of the Week certificate for his age group, so it must have gone well.  Great job James!

A trip to the Sci Tech Discovery Center was a nice way to pass some time on a hot summer day.  The older girls weren’t as into it, but James and Isla had fun exploring the various exhibits and experiments.

Later in the week the kids met some friends at a bounce house place where they were able to run around like crazy and barely avoid getting hurt as they jumped around each other.  They survived and had another fun summer day.

To celebrate Nina and Papa’s birthday, the family got together at Joe T. Garcia’s to enjoy good company and tasty food.  Afterwards, the kids went swimming for awhile which was a nice way to end a busy week.  Happy birthday Nina and Papa!

Swimming, summer activities, and soap…

"Anyone's life truly lived consists of work, sunshine, exercise, soap, plenty of fresh air, and a happy contented spirit."
-Lillie Langtry

Kristen was visiting from Italy which gave us a rare opportunity to get all the cousins together for some fun in the sun at Nina and Papa’s.  The kids swam, threw water balloons, shot each other (and parents) with water guns, had way too much ice cream, and had a great time doing it.

In an effort to keep the kids busy and entertained, Mommy bravely took them to Six Flags on a hot summer day.  They rode the usual rides, got wet, and had fun.

One day in the heat was enough for them this week, so the next time it was time to do something they chose an indoor activity.  Bowling and games makes for a fun afternoon, especially if it involves air conditioning.

An idea popped into one of the kids’ heads.  “Hey, we have something that looks like we could slide on it, and we have all this dish soap that I’m sure isn’t needed for anything important, so why not pour all the soap on the mat and slide on it?”.  It turned out to be a pretty good idea, the kids slid on that thing for a long time and had a great time doing it.  As a bonus, they were all squeaky clean afterwards.
