“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.”
― Anne Frank
Ashlyn’s gymnastics teacher, Mrs. Diane, said that Ashlyn was ready to move to the next class which does not involve parents being with the kids. Given Ashlyn’ shyness, we weren’t sure is she was ready but we trusted Diane’s judgment. And so when Saturday came around we found ourselves at the gym with a nervous toddler in tow. Ashlyn did not want to go in, but we had promised her treats if she was a big girl and the thought of missing out finally convinced her to go in. I stayed with her for a few minutes and then snuck out. She started to fuss, but Diane distracted her and soon enough our little girl was out on her own with the big girls. The pictures were taken through the glass in the upstairs waiting area, so please forgive the poor quality.
She did awesome, and she had two proud parents waiting for her when the class was over. As promised, we took her out for some fun as a reward for being a big girl. The first stop was the park which was filled with slides, bars, and lots of running around. Baby James watched, smiled at everything, had a snack, then watched some more.
Ashlyn really wanted some ice cream, but since all the ice cream stores were closed we went to Dickey’s BBQ for lunch. The free ice cream cone at the end of the meal was welcomed by Ashlyn.
As for James, he keeps growing and not sleeping. He also continues to differ from his sister. Where Ashlyn would look at new things, James will flop over sideways trying to grab it. Where Ashlyn would cautiously feel out something before playing with it, James will rip it from your hands and try to eat it. We baby proofed the house for Ashlyn and it wasn’t needed. Something tells me the work is going to pay off when James gets mobile.
Both the kids are excited about the Aggies this year. 10-2 and the likely winner of the Heisman in the first year being in the SEC? Mom and Dad are excited too. Gig ‘em!
