Happy kids, turtles, and a pink world…

"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."
-Pablo Picasso

As we continue to get the house ready for #3 it’s nice that Ashlyn and James are, for the most part, playing well together.  As long as they’re fed they’re happy.  This is why we shop at CostCo.

Now that Ashlyn is in the next age group at gymnastics, she’s bringing home new tricks to show off.  She can now do a pretty decent cartwheel, complete with salute to the judges (or as Ashlyn calls it, the “ta da!”).  I’m happy to see Ashlyn learning new things, but every Saturday I see the older girls flipping around, climbing ropes to the ceiling, and doing a lot of other things that make me cringe when think of Ashlyn doing them.  I guess I’ll worry about that in a few years if she’s still into gymnastics.

The wind chill is 4 degrees as I’m typing this, but since it’s Texas we had a nice 78 degree day yesterday.  We couldn’t let it go to waste so we piled the kids up on their transportation devices and headed out to the pond to feed ducks.  The ducks didn’t seem to want food but around 3 turtles came over and the kids had a fun time feeding them.  James had so much fun he almost fell in the water five times.  This is why you’ll see Mom holding on to his shirt.

When we got back, the kids played Turtle using barstools as shells.  You have to admire the imagination.  And then it was time to paint.

There are times as a parent where you realize how much the kids have taken over your life, and then you realize how little that bothers you.  I had one of those moments this weekend when we turned our office, which used to have multiple desks, computers, speakers, and shelves full of nerdy stuff, into a pink wonderland.  Technically, it’s now “fairy tale pink” or whatever that color was that Ashlyn picked out.  It’s pink, that’s all I know.  Very, very pink.  Ashlyn likes it though, and that’s all that matters.  Next up is painting the baseboards and putting in new carpet.
