"If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on."
-Lance Armstrong
It’s amazing what can happen when you decide to take the training wheels off. In this case, I mean literal training wheels. Ashlyn decided out of the blue that she was done with training wheels on her bike. I took them off, and sure enough she was off and riding around like she’d been doing it for years. Starting, stopping, turning, all were done without a hitch, fall, or scrape. Go Ashlyn go.
While Ashlyn was learning to ride without training wheels, James was learning to play Jenga. For a boy who inherited his dad’s coordination (meaning he has none) he did really well. At one point he got it so high he had to stand up on the chair to reach the top of the tower. He ended up knocking it over, but it was on my turn and there weren’t really any options so I gave him the win.
One of the things we’re focusing on right now is getting the older kids to help around the house. One of their chores is bringing clothes down for laundry. We didn’t specify how they were supposed to bring the clothes down so it shouldn’t have surprised us to see clothing being thrown down to the first floor before it made its way into the washer. I suppose I can’t complain. The clothes were washed and nothing was broken in the process.
The weather this weekend was fantastic, definitely too good to be spending time indoors. So to the park we went, and the kids as always had a lot of fun. So much so that I was surprised there wasn’t a lot of fussing when it was time to leave for lunch. I guess they were hungry.
The monthly Dad’s breakfast started up last week and I was able to take Ashlyn to her new class afterwards. Ashlyn was excited I was there, but was sad when I left. Still, I’m glad I got to see it and meet her teacher.
